Resume checker for accountants
Accounting resumes are screened on the close cycle and the system you close in. If GAAP, the ERP product, and the reconciliation terms are missing, the posting's filter never reaches your experience.
What accountants get screened on
01The literal part of an accounting posting is a list of cycle activities: close, reconciliation, AP, AR, and the ERP product. Coverage is decided on those strings; the size of the ledger is read later by a human.
- GAAPSummary or the first bullet of the most recent role
- Month-end closeExperience bullet with the close window you hit
- ReconciliationExperience bullet with the number of accounts
- Accounts payable / receivableExperience bullet, one each, with volume
- ExcelSkills line plus one bullet about the model or cleanup
- ERP / SAPSkills line; name the product the posting names
- SOXExperience bullet with the control you owned
- Internal auditExperience bullet if you supported testing
- Variance analysisExperience bullet, next to the decision it informed
- BudgetingExperience bullet with the size of the budget
- Tax preparationOnly if you did the preparation, not the review
Two bullets, before and after
02Each rewrite reuses only the figures already in the original line. Nothing here invents a number you would have to defend in an interview.
Responsible for 14 balance sheet reconciliations.
Cleared 14 balance sheet reconciliations each month, closing with no auditor comments.
The count was already there; the rewrite adds the standard the work met, which is what “quality” means here.
Helped with the month-end close for two plants.
Owned month-end close for inventory and cost of goods sold across two plants.
“Owned” is the difference between supporting a close and being the person the close depends on.
Where these resumes break
03- —“Month end” without “close” does not match “month-end close” as a phrase. Write the term the posting uses, once.
- —Reconciliations listed in a two-column table parse cell by cell, so the account name can land far from the count.
- —A SOX or ERP mention that only appears in the header or footer is frequently lost before the body is parsed.
A sample, scored
04A made-up senior accountant. Clean layout, strong keyword coverage — the remaining gap is the content layer, where two bullets describe duties instead of results.
This sample was written for this page, not scraped from a real candidate. The score is computed by the same rules your file would run through, so it moves whenever the rules change — which is why it is not a hard-coded number.
